Ed Collins joined first-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley's staff as wide receivers coach in March of 2023.
In his inaugural season at Wayne State, Collins helped the wide receivers catch 70 passes for 884 yards and three touchdowns from four different quarterbacks. In addition, three of his receivers earned Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including Max Nicklin on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
In 2024, Collins mentored Second Team All-GLIAC wide receiver Myles McKatherine, who led the squad in receptions (32) and receiving yards (513). As a group, the wide receivers combined for 80 catches for 1,430 yards. Two of his student-athletes garnered Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including Tyler Swick on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
A native of Lilburn, Ga., Collins played collegiately at Georgia Southern (2011-2015).
Following graduation from GSU, Collins spent the 2016 baseball season working for the Atlanta Braves as a Digital Services Representative before spending the next three years in the radio business as a promotions assistant at 92.9 The Game. Collins worked at Insight Global the six years prior to coming to Detroit, while also serving as the wide receivers coach at his prep alma mater, Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga., after stops at Riverwood International Charter School in Atlanta (2021) and the Marist School in Atlanta (2020).
Collins was a wide receiver on the 2010 Georgia 5A state champion Brookwood football squad, before enrolling at GSU. The Eagles won the Southern Conference Championship in both 2011 and 2012, before claiming the Sun Belt conference title in 2014. Collins was a member of the Eagle Honor Roll in 2014.
