Glenn Davis joined the Wayne State Football Coaching staff in February of 2023 as linebackers coach under first-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley.

In his first season with the Warriors, Davis mentored two Second Team All-GLIAC linebackers in Matt Buschman and Drake Reid.  In addition, three of his linebackers received Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including two on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.

In 2024, Davis guided Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection Carl Ware, who led the GLIAC and tied-for-seventh nationally in forced fumbles with four.  Ware led the team in interceptions (2), tackles for loss (9.5), and passes defended (7).  Three of his student-athletes garnered Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including two on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.  Ware was voted to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team.

Davis came to Detroit after coaching cornerbacks at Robert Morris University (Pittsburgh, Pa.) the previous four seasons (2019-22).  Davis mentored Sydney Audiger who received All-Big South Second Team accolades in 2022.  The previous year, Tavin Harville signed a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In his first season with the Colonials in 2019, Davis helped RMU post its first winning season in almost 10 years with an overall record of 7-5 (.587), including a mark of 6-1 (.833) in the Northeast Conference (NEC).  Davis assisted in the development of defensive back Heavon Price, who was named to the 2019 All-NEC Second Team after finishing fourth for the Colonials with 73 tackles, including a team-high 12 pass break-ups.

Davis joined the Colonials after spending two years (2017-18) as an assistant coach at Savannah State.  While an assistant with the Tigers, he coached both the cornerbacks and return specialists.  In 2018, Davis assisted in coaching a defensive unit that ranked third in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in pass defense.  The Tigers finished the 2018 campaign with 10 interceptions and 31 pass break-ups.

In addition to leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in pass defense in 2018, Savannah State also ranked 19th in NCAA FCS in total defense, allowing an average of 316.2 yards per game.

In his first season with Savannah State in 2017, Davis was instrumental in the development of JaMichael Baldwin, who earned All-MEAC honors at return specialist.  Baldwin led the MEAC punt return average (13.5), which also ranked fourth in NCAA FCS.  In addition, Baldwin ranked second in the MEAC in kickoff return average (22.1).

Davis has also held assistant coach positions with Northern Michigan (2016), IMG Academy (2015) and Youngstown State (2012-14).  He coached the secondary at Northern Michigan and the cornerbacks at YSU.  While with the Penguins, he recruited and coached a pair of YSU players (David Rivers and Kenneth Durden) that played in the NFL.  In 2015, he coached running backs at the IMG Academy.

Davis, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida in 2001.  He was a student-athlete for the inaugural USF squad in 1997 and was a four-year starter at cornerback, earning 42 starts in 44 games.  He recorded the first interception in program history, and still ranks in the top 10 in school history career pass break-ups (24) and passes defended (28).

Upon completion of his playing career at South Florida, Davis had a free agent tryout with the New York Jets before playing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2002.  He also played for the Orlando Predators (2003), Carolina Cobras (2004) and Wilkes Barre/Scranton Pioneers (2005) of the Arena Football League (AFL).

Davis began his coaching career as defensive coordinator and secondary coach for the Birmingham Steeldogs of the AFL in 2006.  He also held coaching stints with Freedom High School in Tampa, Fla., in 2007-08 and Union Christian Preparatory (2009) in Cincinnati.  Davis returned to his alma mater in 2010, serving as a graduate assistant with USF from 2010-11, where he served as defensive quality control.
