2021:  Dressed for the final five home games, but did not see any playing time.

2020:  Season canceled due to COVID-19.

2019:  Dressed for the first three home games, but did not see any playing time ... missed the final five games due to an illness ... was redshirted ... selected WSU's Scout Defensive Player of the Week for the Quincy game.

High School:  A 2019 graduate of Oswego High School ... was a three-year letterwinner for coach Brian Cooney, helping the Panthers to a 30-4 record in that span ... played cornerback his first two years on varsity and safety as a senior ... helped OHS to a 10-2 record as a junior and a 10-1 mark in 2018, along with three consecutive Class 8A state playoff appearances, and back-to-back state quarterfinal contests ... earned All-Southwest Prairie Conference accolades as well as Kendall County All-Area honors ... had a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown against Minooka on Sept. 1, 2018, and a 54-yard punt return for a score vs. Plainfield East as a senior ... totaled 209 punt return yards on five attempts as a senior, along with one kickoff return for 22 yards ... recorded 25 tackles (20-5) in 2018, four interceptions, two pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries ... also played basketball.

Coach Winters on John Patterson:  “John is a tremendously skilled athlete.  He has the ability to break on the ball quickly and has recovery speed to cover deep throws.  He has also played safety and receiver, but will concentrate on the cornerback position with the Warriors!  John is also an outstanding return man with kickoffs and punts that he returned for touchdowns in high school.”
