Kyle Lorentzen joined the Wayne State University men's basketball coaching staff prior to the 2024-25 campaign as a graduate assistant after spending three seasons as an assistant at Macomb Community College. Prior to that, he spent five years at Roseville High School in various roles.
After finishing up his post-graduate degree in the spring of 2025, Lorentzen is a member of the 2025-26 squad as a coaching staff assistant.
Originally from Roseville, Mich., Lorentzen graduated from Roseville in 2016 before earning his bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Wayne State in 2020. He maintained an undergrad GPA of 3.62, including multiple mentions on the Dean's List.
During his three-year tenure at Macomb CC, the Monarchs' accomplishments included:
- 84-17 overall record
- 36-8 conference mark
- Sixteen players earned scholarships to four-year schools
- Three of those four were at the NCAA Division I level
- Three NJCAA All-Americans
- Eight All-Region players
- Two trips to NJCAA National Tournament
- Two MCCAA Eastern Conference Championships
- Two MCCAA Championships
- National Championship appearance in 2022-23 (best finish in program history)
- Two NJCAA Region 12 Championships
- Best single-season record in program history at 31-4 in 2023-24
