Robert Schultz joined the Wayne State University cross country coaching staff in the summer of 2018 and served two years (2018-19 and 2019-20) on coach Grant Lofdahl's staff.

In his second year at WSU, Schultz helped the men's cross country squad to a fourth-place finish in the GLIAC and seventh place at the NCAA Midwest Regional.  He aided in the women's cross country team placing fourth at the GLIAC Championships, seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional and 25th at the NCAA Division II national championships, the first appearance at nationals for the women's squad since 2014.  The men's team had a school-record 11 GLIAC All-Academic honorees for the fall 2019 season.

A native of Woodhaven, Schultz earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Adrian College in 2016 and completed a master's degree in Economics at WSU in 2020.  While at AC, he received numerous USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

Schultz was a four-year member of the Bulldog cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

During the indoor track season for the Bulldogs, Schultz competed in the mile, 3000 meter and DMR.

In outdoor track, he competed in the 1500 meter, 5000 meter and 10,000 meter events.
