Former Wayne State University diving letterwinner Jason Trout joined the Warrior swimming and diving coaching staff in August of 2022 as the diving coach.
During the 2024-25 season, Trout led one of the most dominant men's diving squads in recent WSU history highlighted by senior Julio Osuna, who was named GLIAC Diver of the Year after sweeping the one-meter and three-meter boards at the GLIAC Championships. Osuna finished as the national runner-up on both boards at the NCAA Championships earning First Team All-American honors in both events and setting seven of eight WSU school/pool records in the process. Sophomore Max Wasiniak also earned a pair of First Team All-American accolades at the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish on three-meter and a fifth-place finish on one-meter. Rounding out the trio, sophomore John Martin collected Second Team All-American recognition at the NCAA Championships with 14th- and 15th-place national finishes. All three men reached the finals of both boards at the GLIAC meet. On the women’s side, Trout’s group added three GLIAC finals appearances to cap another strong season of championship-level experience. Trout also guided sophomore Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru to her second consecutive NCAA qualification as well as freshman Alicia Viaches to her first NCAA qualification.
In the 2023-24 season, Trout mentored senior Mikaela Senkus to her second consecutive GLIAC Diver of the Year honor with her three-meter GLIAC Championship as well as a second-place finish on the one-meter board. Senkus placed second on both boards at the NCAA Championships for the second season in a row. Trout's crew went on to produce the best men's diving results that WSU had seen in nearly a decade thanks to freshmen Max Wasniak and John Martin both achieving NCAA All-American distinction.
The 2022-23 season saw Senkus win GLIAC Championships for both the one-meter and three-meter boards before being named GLIAC Diver of the Year. Senkus finished as the NCAA national runner-up for both boards as well. The three-time letterwinner was also named Wayne State's Female Student-Athlete of the Year, a First Team CSCAA Scholar All-American and a CSC First Team Academic All-American.
Trout, who earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from WSU in 2016 followed by a master's degree in Engineering Management from the University of Michigan in 2018, was a member of back-to-back GLIAC Championship squads in 2012 and 2013.
A certified diving coach by both USA Diving and the AAU, Trout has served as a diving coach for nine years, including three years each with the Farmington Hills Mercy and Royal Oak swimming and diving squads. During that span, he coached numerous regional and state qualifiers.
