UPDATED August 10, 2023

Bob Hartwick joined the Wayne State University men's tennis coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for Bryan Morrow in the fall of 2017.  He completed his sixth season with WSU in the spring of 2023.

In June of 2022, he was selected as the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year after earning Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.  In 2023, Hartwick was again selected Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Warriors to a GLIAC Tournament title, a Midwest Regional title and an appearance in the national quarterfinals (lost to eventual national champion Barry).

WSU has compiled a 101-44 record in his six seasons as an assistant coach, including back-to-back appearances in the national championships (second in 2022, and tied-for-fifth in 2023).

Hartwick played a key role in helping the Green and Gold land seven players on the All-GLIAC teams in 2022, including the GLIAC Player of the Year in Dom Spicer.  He also aided in the first two tennis All-Americans in program history as freshman Cedric Drenth and sophomore Daniel Grey were ITA doubles All-Americans. In addition, he assisted in the Warriors winning five consecutive NCAA Tournament matches to reach the national championship match.

He was a three-year WSU tennis player (1982-85) and served as a team captain his final two seasons.  In 1983, Hartwick played both singles and doubles.  In 1985, he helped the Tartars to a 5-1 GLIAC ledger and a second-place finish in the conference tournament.  In his final two seasons, Hartwick played number one singles and first doubles pairing with Oscar Gamara and Glen McLean, respectively.  Hartwick won six matches at the No. 1 singles flight as a senior and paired with Glenn McLean for six victories at first doubles.

He currently resides in Harbor Springs, Mich., with his wife Trish, where he has been a real estate broker since 1993.
