Dr. Lisa Erickson joined the Wayne State University Athletic Sports Medicine Staff in August of 2021 as Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, Head Athletic Trainer and Athletics Health Care Administrator. She entered her sixth year with the Warriors in the fall of 2026.
In her role, Dr. Erickson serves as the primary athletic trainer for the men's basketball and men's tennis teams, and oversees the comprehensive care for all WSU student-athletes while also leading several high-impact department and campus-wide initiatives. She managed the re-branding of the Athletics Fueling Station, revitalizing internship and clinical rotations for Nutrition and Food Science, and Dietetics majors, as well as growing the Nutrition for Athletic Performance resources available to Warrior student-athletes. Further, she has strengthened relationships with the WSU Kinesiology department, and is often an internship supervisor for Exercise and Sport Science majors. She is also the founder of two major community drives: the Warrior Strides Campaign, which has donated over 2,200 pairs of new socks to local Detroit organization Alternatives for Girls, and the I-96 Blood Battle, a blood drive competition against Davenport University; since its inaugural event in 2023, the two universities have collected over 200 pints of blood, which has helped save up to 600 lives in their respective communities. Dr. Erickson is also a member of the Northwest Wayne County Chapter of Zonta International, a leading global organization of individuals working together to build a better world for women and girls.
Before coming to Wayne State, Dr. Erickson spent four years at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, serving her final two seasons as Head Athletic Trainer. In addition to serving as the primary athletic trainer for football, softball, cheer, and dance, she was an Adjunct Assistant Professor, served on multiple university committees, and acted as the primary liaison between Madonna and Ascension Hospital-Providence Athletic Medicine.
Her extensive athletic training background also includes work with Briotix Health and Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists, as well as staff athletic training positions at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, and Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, where she was also an Adjunct Professor in the Human Performance and Physical Education Department. She also served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL.
Dr. Erickson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Michigan State University, during which time she also studied Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques at the National Taiwan Sports University in Guishan, Taoyuan, Taiwan.
