Lucia Procopio joined the Wayne State University fencing coaching staff in August of 2018 after four successful years competing at Northwestern University. The 2021-22 season was her fourth with the program.Â
She was named the 2021 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Men's Assistant Coach of the Year after she helped lead the Warriors to CCFC Regular Season Co-Championships in both Men’s Foil and Men’s Epee. WSU also qualified two athletes to NCAA Championships, both finishing 19th overall.
As a senior and team captain at Northwestern in 2017-18, she went 39-6 competing in foil and received honorable mention at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships. For her career, she finished with a record of 88-14.
From 2015 to 2017, Procopio coached in youth development programs Swift Fencing LLC and Wildcat Fencing in Chicago, Ill. In 2018, she became the Head Youth Development Coach at Renaissance Fencing Club in Troy, Mich. In 2020, Procopio received the NCAA Women's Enhancement Graduate Scholarship to pursue a Master's in Sport Coaching and Leadership.Â
Procopio graduated from Northwestern in 2018 with a degree in History and Anthropology. A native of Long Beach, Calif., she also works as a research assistant for the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality.
