Sophia Wygonik, who joined the Wayne State University women's golf program for her final season of eligibility in 2024-25, is returning to coach Larry Hamilton's staff in 2025-26 as a volunteer assistant coach.

STUDENT-ATHLETE BIO
2024-25:  Transferred in from Eastern Michigan to play in all 10 of the team's tournaments and 25 rounds (tied career high set as a junior at EMU) ... secured a scoring average of 79.92 in those 25 rounds with a total of 1,998 strokes ... finished among the top 10 for one event and within the top 25 for four of them ... that top-10 showing was a tie-for-sixth of 72 competitors at the Davenport Panther Invitational on Oct. 12-13, the team's final event of the fall ... there, she shot a 148 (+4, 75-73) ... next-best outing was a tie-for-11th among 49 players at Wayne State's Warrior Invitational on Sept. 23-24 with a 157 (+13, 80-77) ... her two other top-25 leaderboards included 13th of 43 at the GLIAC Championship (April 25-26) and tie-for-17th of 56 at Walsh's Cav Classic, the squad's final effort of the regular season ... carded a 153 (+9, 72-81) at the league tournament and a 163 (+19, 79-84) heading into the postseason ... that 72 on day one of the conference championship was her lowest 18-hole output of the campaign ... ranked just outside the top 25 for Ohio Dominican's NC4K Classic on April 7-8 (162, +18, 77-85) and the NCAA East Regional on May 5-7 (236, +20, 81-77-78), both of which she was among the deadlock for 29th (out of 96 and 89, respectively.

2023-24:  Was a member of the Eastern Michigan women's golf team for four seasons (2020-2024) ... competed in 25 rounds with an average score of 80.56 ... shot a season-low round of 74 at the MAC Championship ... best finish was tied-for-21st at the MAC Championship with a 240 (74-81-85) ... tied-for-22nd at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate ... concluded EMU career with 66 rounds and an average score of 80.39.

2022-23:  Did not play ... took a redshirt season.

2021-22:  Named to the Academic All-MAC team ... played in 23 rounds, recording an average of 79.74 ... tied-for-10th at the Golden Grizzly Invitational with a 152 (75-77) ... shot a 157 (79-78) at the Don Benbow Invitational to tie for 23rd ... selected to the Dean's List ... earned WGCA All-American Scholar recognition.

2020-21:  Played in 18 rounds with an average of 81.00 ... notched a low round of 75 in the final round of the Akron Invitational ... tied-for-eighth at the Akron Invitational with a 151 (76-75) ... finished 24th at the Don Denbow Invitational with a 171 (85-86) ... placed 28th at the MAC Championship with a 242 (79-84-79) ... made first career hole-in-one on No. 15 at the Bama Beach Bash with a 9-iron from 116 yards out ... selected to the Dean's List.

High School:  A 2020 graduate of Livonia Franklin High School ... was a four-year letterwinner for the Patriots and coaches Jason Ramler and Ryan Tracy ... qualified for the MHSAA Division 1 state finals all four years ... finished eighth as a senior with a 156 (83-73), after shooting a 174 (85-89) the previous year ... posted a scoring average of 77.33 as a senior with six top-10 finishes ... led LFHS to a ninth-place team finish as a sophomore with a team-best score of 161 (79-82) ... was an individual qualifier as a freshman.
