Emerson Combs joined the Wayne State University athletics strength and conditioning department as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2025.  He will begin his second year on strength coach Ruben Mendoza's staff in August of 2026.

He primarily works with men's and women's fencing, men's and women's golf, women's track & field throwers & sprinters.

Originally from Smyrna, Tenn., Combs concluded a four-year playing career (2021-24) as a wide receiver at Madonna University in Livonia, Mich., a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

During those four years, he appeared in 28 games, including seven as a sophomore, 10 as a junior and 11 in his final collegiate campaign.  Overall, the Smyrna High School product accounted for 54 receptions, 625 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and a longest reception of 41 yards as a junior.

He is currently pursuing a master's degree from WSU in Exercise & Sport Science.
