Wayne State University Director of Athletics Erika Wallace announced the hiring of Doug Steinard as the first varsity women's soccer head coach in school history on August 22, 2025.

"I am thrilled to welcome Doug Steinard as the first head coach of our women's soccer program," said Wallace.  "Doug brings a wealth of experience at multiple levels of the game and has demonstrated a true passion for developing student-athletes.  His energy and vision for building this program from the ground up make him the right person to lead us into this historic chapter for Wayne State Athletics."

"I am truly honored to be named the first head coach of Wayne State's women's soccer program," stated Steinard.  "This is an incredible opportunity to help build something special from the ground up, and I am excited to work with the university, the athletic department, and our student-athletes to establish a strong foundation for success on and off the field.  I want to sincerely thank Erika Wallace for this opportunity and her belief in me.  I look forward to creating a culture of hard work, resilience, and pride that will represent Wayne State with excellence."

Steinard has spent the last seven years with the Michigan Jaguars FC as Girls Technical Director and Club Coach handling training schedules, tournament coordination, recruiting events and roster management.  He also worked with the women's semi-pro team on recruiting, scheduling and athlete/team development.  Two of his teams (U19 and U16) were NAL National Champions in 2025.  Steinard has been a part of five consecutive league championship team and three straight MSYSA state championships in 2021-22-23.

He has also spent the last 10 seasons as the assistant women's soccer coach at Lawrence Tech University.  The Blue Devils advanced to the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) championship game in 2023 compiling an 11-5-4 overall record, including a 7-3-1 league mark.  During his tenure at LTU, Steinard helped mentor 11 All-WHAC performers, and one WHAC Defensive Player of Year, while eight squads received All-Academic recognition.

He has spent the last five years as the head coach at Rochester High School, compiling a 70-14-16 all-time record.  In 2022, Steinard was selected Regional Coach of the Year after leading RHS to regional and district championships and a 17-1-4 mark, followed by an 18-1-2 record in 2023.

A 2012 graduate of Rochester College with a bachelor's degree in Biology, Steinard is currently pursuing an MBA at Lawrence Tech.  He has held a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "D" License for the last 15 years, along with a Premier License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the last eight years.

What They Are Saying About Doug Steinard:
Andy Richards, Head Coach, Lawrence Tech University:  "Doug Steinard is an outstanding choice to lead the new women's soccer program at Wayne State University.  He is not only a highly skilled coach but also a person of great character.  I have been fortunate to watch his growth and development as an assistant coach at Lawrence Tech, and I am confident he has gained all the tools necessary to successfully run his own program.  We will certainly miss Doug at LTU but are excited to see all that he will accomplish at WSU and wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter."

Mike Scobie, Girls Academy Director, Michigan Jaguars:  "On behalf of myself and the Michigan Jaguars, I would like to say how incredibly proud I am to see coach Doug Steinard named as Head Coach of the Wayne State University Women's Soccer Program.  I have had the opportunity to work with Doug now for almost 10 years and have witnessed firsthand his unique ability to develop female athletes on and off the field.  Doug is a good friend, a great coach, and a great person.  Wayne State University has made an excellent choice picking Doug to lead their inaugural Women's Soccer season and build a solid foundation that will lead to years of success."
