Malissa Streng joined the Wayne State University Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center staff as Facilities and Outdoor Adventure Manager in July of 2022. She began her fourth year on staff in the fall of 2025.
A native of Shepherd, Mich., Streng earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Central Michigan University in 2015, and added a bachelor's degree the following year from CMU in Outdoor Recreation & Environmental Education. She received a master's degree in Recreation and Park Administration from CMU in 2019.
Streng worked at Fort Bragg, N.C., for one year in Morale, Welfare, & Recreation. She spent six years as a member of the Landscape Operations Staff at CMU, followed by two years as the Recreation Program Coordinator for the City of Detroit at the Lasky Recreation Center.
She spent the previous year before joining WSU as the Assistant Recreation Activities Coordinator for the City of Detroit Athletics Department.
