Max Bernstein joined the Wayne State University strength & conditioning department as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2024.  He begins his second year on coach Ruben Mendoza's staff in the fall of 2025.

His primary sports are men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's cross country.  Bernstein also assists with football.

In his first year, Bernstein aided in the training of multiple All-Americans, individual conference champions, and one team conference champion.

The Ann Arbor native has completed multiple strength & conditioning internships including Wayne State (6/3/24 to /8/14/24), Michigan basketball (6/9/24 to 8/9/24), Boston College football (1/12/24 to 4/26/24) and Blue Chip Ann Arbor (8/21 to 12/23 and 2/21 to 7/21).

Bernstein earned his bachelor's degree in Communication and Media with a minor in English from the University of Michigan in May of 2020.  While he was a student, Bernstein was a student manager for the football program.

Max is a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as Strength & Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA).

He is the son of the long time Michigan Women’s Tennis coach Ronni Bernstein, the winningest coach in program history. In 2025, she guided the Wolverines to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Final Four.
