Tim Koth was named the 13th head coach in the history of the Wayne State University's volleyball program prior to the 2014 season and the fall 2024 season was his 11th year with the Warriors.

In 2024, WSU clinched a home court GLIAC Tournament game and had four All-GLIAC selections in First Team recipient (Kayla Giroux), Second Team honorees (Kayla Dulgar and Molly Miller) and Honorable Mention selection (Kendyl Andrews).  In addition, 12 student-athletes received Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including 10 on the Excellence Team (cumulative GPA of at least 3.5).

Koth mentored two all-conference performers in 2023 as sophomore Kayla Giroux was First Team All-GLIAC, and freshman setter Kayla Dulgar was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

In 2022, Koth led WSU to a 19-win campaign, including a 12-6 mark in the GLIAC, along with hosting a GLIAC Quarterfinal match for the second consecutive year.  Giroux was selected AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year after receiving GLIAC Freshman of the Year accolades.  Giroux was also an Honorable Mention All-Midwest Region selection by the AVCA.  Giroux and Lauren VanderWal received First Team All-GLIAC honors, while Kamryn Duffield and Maddy Benoit were voted to the Second Team.

The 2022 squad had 13 GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honorees, the most in program history, while the 15 total All-Academic recipients tied the school record.

In 2021, Koth guided WSU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1994 and 20 wins for the first time since 1998.  Twelve (12) of his student-athletes received Academic All-GLIAC recognition for the fall 2021 season, including 10 who earned GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.  In addition, six Warriors were honored with All-GLIAC designation, including three First Team All-GLIAC selections with VanderWal receiving Honorable Mention All-Region honors by the AVCA.

The 2020-21 season was unique as WSU played during the spring.  WSU finished 4-8 with all 12 matches coming within the GLIAC.  Wayne State missed the GLIAC Tournament due to GLIAC COVID-19 protocols.  Duffield was voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team, while Taylor Wagner was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.  In addition, 13 student-athletes were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Teams, including a school record 10 earning a spot on the All-Academic Excellence Team.

It was another trip to the postseason for the Warriors in 2019 after Koth led WSU to a 17-12 overall record and a fifth seed in the GLIAC Tournament.  The Green & Gold finished second in the South Division with a 9-7 league record.  Wayne State knocked off Saginaw Valley State in the opening round of the playoffs for its seventh straight win before falling at top-seeded Ferris State in the semifinals.  Senior Madelyn Krenz earned AVCA All-Region honors as well as First Team All-GLIAC accolades.  The regional honor was the first for WSU under Coach Koth and the first for the program since 2012.  Duffield, a sophomore setter, earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors and Wagner, a sophomore outside hitter, was named to the Honorable Mention Team.

The 2019-20 squad received the AVCA Team Academic Award, marking the fifth consecutive year the Warriors have been so honored.

Koth guided the Warriors to the GLIAC Tournament for the third consecutive season in 2018 after compiling a 15-13 overall record and a 10-6 league mark.  Hailey Richardson collected First Team All-GLIAC accolades, while Ellie Rodriguez earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors.  Duffield was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention squad.

In 2017, WSU went 16-13 overall with a 10-6 mark in league matches.  Koth led WSU to its second consecutive GLIAC Tournament berth and helped the Warriors top GVSU for its first postseason victory since 2012.  Wayne State tied-for-second in the GLIAC South Division and was the fifth seed for the playoffs.  Richardson earned First Team All-GLIAC honors, Rodriguez was selected to the All-GLIAC Second Team, while Krenz was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.  Additionally, 12 student-athletes were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Teams.

In 2016, Koth led WSU to one of its best seasons during his time in Detroit.  The Warriors finished 19-11 overall, 10-7 in the league and played in the GLIAC Tournament for the first time since 2012.  It is the most overall wins for the volleyball program since 2009 and the 10 league victories were the most since 2012.  Wayne State also just missed another milestone, which was being ranked for the first time since 1997.  The Warriors were ranked 27th on Oct. 10 and 26th on Oct. 17.  The squad was receiving votes for much of the season including the final AVCA Coaches Poll of the regular season.

WSU began the season 9-1 after successful non-conference tournaments at Illinois Springfield and the Warrior Invitational, which WSU hosted for the first time since 2009.  Hannah Moore and Brittany Guldan were named to the All-Tournament Team following the UIS Capital Classic.  Guldan earned Most Outstanding Player honors following the home tournament and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Richardson and Moore.  The Green & Gold entered the Midwest Regional Crossover as the league’s top seed for the first time in program history.  Michelle Asiedu ranked near the top nationally in hitting percentage throughout the season and was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week on Oct. 3 after hitting .417 and collecting 32 kills.

Guldan also proved to be one of the best setters in the league and Division II.  She finished with 1,213 assists, which ranked sixth in the league at the conclusion of the league tournament and her 10.28 assists per set ranked seventh.  Her season assists total was the sixth-most in program history.  Guldan was named to the All-GLIAC First Team, while Richardson earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors.  Asiedu was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.

The Warriors finished 2015 with a 12-18 overall record including a 7-11 mark in league contests.  Koth captured his 300th women's volleyball coaching victory with a 3-0 sweep over St. Joseph's on Oct. 17th in the Midwest Regional Crossover.  WSU played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, which featured matches against #1 Tampa, #4 Minnesota Duluth, #9 Wheeling Jesuit and #24 Western Washington.  He helped Moore to a Second Team All-GLIAC selection and Emily Norscia to Honorable Mention All-GLIAC recognition.

In 2014, WSU had a 9-16 overall record and a 6-12 league mark.  He helped Norscia and Heather Weiss to All-GLIAC selections.  His first win as the Warriors' head coach occurred during the Clarion Invitational against Concord (3-2).  Koth's first GLIAC win with WSU was also his first home win - against Tiffin (3-2) on Sept. 20th.

He came to Wayne State after serving as the head coach at former GLIAC member Northwood University the previous 10 seasons (2004-13).  Prior to his arrival in Midland, Koth spent eight years (1996-2003) at GLVC member Quincy coaching both the women's Division II program and the men's Division I program.  He went 106-122 with the women and 87-123 on the men's side.

After leading the Timberwolves to a 21-11 record in 2013, his overall record at Northwood was 175-124.  His Northwood squads qualified for eight GLIAC tournaments and five NCAA tournaments in his tenure.  His GLIAC Tournament mark was 6-7, while his NCAA Tournament record was 3-5 with two victories in 2004 and one in 2005.

Koth spent both the 1994 and 1995 campaigns at Eastern Michigan starting as the associate head coach then taking over five matches into the second year.  He mentored Mid-American Conference assists leader Sandy Burkel to a league-leading 12.47 assists per game.

He began his collegiate coaching career at California State-Northridge while completing requirements for his bachelor's degree in communications/public relations.  Koth served as an assistant women's coach for two seasons (1987-88), helping the Matadors to a national title in 1987 and the championship match in 1988.

While at CSU-Northridge, he served as the assistant men's volleyball coach for eight seasons (1987-94) helping the Matadors to a 1993 appearance in the national championship match.

Koth mentored 60 GLIAC All-Academic honorees during his years at Northwood including the highest two totals his last two years with nine in 2012 and 11 in 2013.

In addition, he tutored two GLIAC Players of the Year (Gorana Maricic in 2005 and Juliia Pakhomenko in 2012), along with Maricic earning GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2004.  Both student-athletes received All-American recognition (Maricic in 2005, and Pakhomenko in both 2012 and 2013).

He mentored eight First Team All-GLIAC selections while coaching the Timberwolves, 13 Second Team All-GLIAC and 10 Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honorees for a total of 31 all-league selections in his 10 years in Midland.

In 2012, his squad was very accomplished both on and off the court as that team was recognized by the AVCA with the Team Academic Award after posting a 3.578 team GPA for the academic year.  Koth was the 2012 AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year after being voted GLIAC Coach of the Year by his peers.

His Northwood teams won two GLIAC Divisional titles (South in 2008 and North in 2012), plus the GLIAC overall regular-season title in 2012 with a 17-1 league ledger.  That year, his Timberwolves squad also won the GLIAC Tournament.

His first season as head coach at Northwood in 2004, he led his team to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional championship match and the Timberwolves were ranked 18th in the final national poll.  The following year, his squad reached the regional semifinals and was ranked as high No. 16 nationally during the campaign.

A native of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Koth was the head coach of the Warren St. Anne High School team prior to his days as a collegiate coach. That squad won Catholic and District titles, earning rankings as high as No. 4 in the state. Koth was named Coach of the Year by many publications that season.

A 1989 graduate of Cal State-Northridge, Koth is a member of the AVCA and USA Volleyball.
