Eleven WSU Skaters Named All-Academic

Eleven members of the 2005-06 Wayne State University men's hockey team received CHA All-Academic team honors at the College Hockey America Awards Presentation held Thursday evening in the Hall of Legends at Ford Field.

In order to receive all-academic team accolades a student-athlete must have either a 3.00 (or greater) cumulative grade-point average, or at least a 3.00 (or greater) term gpa for the last two semesters.

Selected to the CHA All-Academic squad from WSU were junior forward/defenseman Matt Boldt (Burnsville, Minn.), junior goalie Kevin Bonikowski (Macomb, Mich.), junior defenseman Taylor Donohoe (Richmond, B.C.), junior defenseman Adam Drescher (Belleville, Mich.), junior forward Nate Higgins (Calgary, Alb.), junior goaltender Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont.), senior goaltender Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass.), senior defenseman Steve Kovalchik (Riverview, Mich.), redshirt freshman forward Bryan Olds (Duluth, Minn.), sophomore center Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore forward Dave Perri (Plymouth, Minn.).

Warrior sophomore forward Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont.) was named as WSU's Easton Three-Star Award winner for accumulating the most three-star points during CHA league contests for Wayne State.

Wayne State, the No. 6 seed, skates against Alabama-Huntsville, the No. 3 seed, in Friday's second CHA quarterfinal contest (7:35 p.m.). In the first quarterfinal match, #5-seeded Air Force plays fourth seeded Robert Morris University.
