DETROIT - For the second time this season, the Wayne State University volleyball team (8-6, 6-4 GLIAC) dropped a
three-set decision to Hillsdale College (12-1, 9-0 GLIAC), as the 14th-ranked Chargers won their 11th straight match on WSU's Homecoming at the Matthaei on Saturday afternoon.
Hillsdale swept the match by scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-12 in a battle between the first and second place teams in the South Division.
Madie Kent (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) led Wayne State with 11 kills, her fourth double-digit total in five matches. She hit a season-high .364 and contributed six digs.
Katarzyna Sak (Warren, Mich./Cousino) totaled seven kills and a pair of blocks, while
Nicole Arends (Ravenna, Mich.) hit .462 with six kills.
The Warriors won the first point of the match but did not lead again for the remainder of the opening set.
In the second, after a 10-point run gave the Chargers an 11-3 lead, the Warriors battled to within three points on several occasions. Wayne State also fought off three set points before succumbing 25-22.
Hillsdale won 16 of the final 22 points in the third to sweep the match.
Wayne State will travel to Northwood and Lake Superior State next weekend.
