Kissimmee, Fla. -- The fourth-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (12-3 overall) had its nine-game winning streak end with a
3-0 setback to Quincy University (3-3 overall) Saturday morning on the first day of the 2010 Rebel Spring Games for the Warriors.
WSU had its scoring opportunities -- loading the bases with one out in the second on two walks and a hit by pitch; leaving two runners in the third following two walks; two singles in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Hawks scored the only run they would need in the bottom of the first on back-to-back singles and a double steal (second and home). Erin Gregory hit a two-run home run in the third following a two-out walk.
Wayne State had just four singles --
Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy),
Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.), Becca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) and
Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont. / Forest Heights C.I.) -- in the contest.
Sophomore
Sam Cain (Taylor, Mich. / Kennedy) saw her record fall to 1-2. She limited the Hawks to four hits, but allowed three earned runs. Torie Bunzell (3-1) struck out five and walked six for QU.
WSU will face Lynn University (9 am) and Minnesota-Duluth (11 am) on day two of its spring break trip.
