DETROIT -
The Wayne State University baseball team (7-10) rallied in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, but ultimately fell, 10-8, in the 10th to Eastern Michigan University (7-13).

Michael Wiseman's (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) two-out, three-run homer, his third hit of the game, capped off a four-run rally and tied the game at 8-8 in the ninth.

A two-run double by Zack Leonard in the 10th, however, put the Eagles in front again, and Neil Butara (1-0) tossed a scoreless final frame.

Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova), who finished 1-for-4 with a walk, tied Wayne State's all-time hits record with his RBI double in the first inning. LaPensee has 215 career hits, matching the record total established by former shortstop Frank Jeney (2002-05).

The Warriors scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-1 lead. Alex Trojan (Fenton, Mich./Hartland) came in on a wild pitch in the second, and Wiseman singled in Paul LaMantia (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's) in the third.

After Bo Kinder's sacrifice fly in the fourth cut EMU's deficit to one, the Eagles grabbed a 6-3 lead with a four-run fifth inning.

Cameron Walker (Clinton Twp., Mich./De La Salle) drove in a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, but Eastern Michigan added two unearned runs to its tally in the seventh on a WSU error.

A leadoff walk to Walker and a pinch-hit single by Phil Swanson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek) was followed by a one-out walk to LaPensee, setting up LaMantia to bring in a run with a groundout. Wiseman came up next and smacked a three-run shot down the right-field line.

Trojan walked and Tom Olson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) singled to keep the rally alive, but Butara struck out Kyle Vesey (Brighton, Mich.) to send the game to extra innings.

Wayne State used six pitchers in the game. Starter Billy Hurley (Mississauga, Ont./St. Aloysius Gonzaga) allowed just one unearned run and two hits in three innings. Justin Sylvester (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), who worked two relief innings, took the loss (0-1).

The Warriors will host Tiffin University for a GLIAC doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
