DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, following the 2026 season.  The Warriors posted a 3.606 team GPA for the 2025-26 academic year and have collected the award in all 11 seasons since the award was introduced in 2016.

This year, nearly 500 college programs and more than 320 high school programs were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement.

"We are thankful for the ABCA recognizing our team's academic accomplishment via this award," said head coach Ryan Kelley.  "Our baseball student-athletes delivered on and off the field this past academic year.  Our coaching staff and I are very proud of their effort and leadership.  A college baseball season is challenging for student-athletes considering the time commitments, travel and constant schedule.  Plus, considering the competitive curriculums our student-athletes are enrolled in, their ability to deliver high academic results is a measure of perseverance, accountability and commitment.  Thank you to our baseball student-athletes for their academic dedication!  Additionally, a special thanks to WSU Athletics Academic Advisor Kim Clexton for her distinct teamwork, leadership and support.  Thank you to the several academic faculty and staff on campus for providing a genuine academic experience!"

Coaches were able to nominate their teams for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award following the conclusion of their spring semesters prior to the nomination deadline of July 17th.  To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:

- Must be a high school or college team
- Head coach must be a current ABCA member
- Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for the 2025-26 academic year
