DETROIT - The Wayne State University baseball team (9-10, 3-2 GLIAC) secured a sweep of Wednesday's doubleheader against Tiffin University (4-19, 1-6 GLIAC) with a
3-1 victory in the second game.
Tyler Loehr (Brighton, Mich.) earned his second win of the year, tossing three scoreless innings as the Warriors erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth, adding an insurance run in the sixth.
Phil Swanson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek) went 3-for-3, matching his career-high for hits in a game, and
Alex Trojan (Fenton, Mich./Hartland) finished 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Cory Hornyak scored on a wild pitch in the third inning, accounting for the only run allowed by WSU starter
Tyler Higgins (Shepherd, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) in his first collegiate start.
Swanson and Trojan opened the fifth inning with consecutive singles. A bunt single by
John Skaggs (Adrian, Mich.) loaded the bases, and Swanson scored on a wild pitch.
Kyle Vesey (Brighton, Mich.) later brought in Trojan with a two-out single to right field.

Paul LaMantia (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne's), who led off the inning with a single to extend his career-long hitting streak to nine games.
Higgins and Loehr struck out a combined six batters and left 10 Dragons stranded on base. Loehr (2-1) also allowed just one walk and one hit.
Kyle Blackford's record fell to 0-5, as he gave up two runs on six hits in four innings.
Wayne State will begin a three-game series at the University of Findlay on Saturday.

WSU is 16-5 all-time against Tiffin … the Warriors have won 10 of the last 11 meetings … LaMantia is batting .485 (16-33) during his hitting streak.
