Softball Completes Sweep of Lake Erie With 13-0 Win

Warriors pound out 16 hits in five innings.

Painesville, Ohio -- The 16th-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (35-8 overall) completed its non-conference doubleheader sweep with a 13-0 triumph in five innings at Lake Erie College () Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors scored four times in the second and added seven more in the third before tallying two times in the fifth.

Senior Nicole Abel (Kitchener, Ont. / St. Mary's) tossed a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks to improve to 4-2 on the season.  Lyndsie Delprato (0-4) started for the Storm and allowed 11 runs (six earned) in 2.2 innings on 12 hits.  Sam Ronde hurled the final 2.1 innings allowing two earned runs on four hits.

Jaci Banton (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Cardinal Carter), Becca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) and Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont. / Forest Heights C.I.) each had three hits for the Warriors as nine different players recorded hits in the contest.  WSU had just two extra-base hits -- a double by Ryan and a home run for LeClair.

LeClair's home run came leading off the second snapping a 0-0 tie.  Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) had an RBI single, while Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) added an RBI ground out in the frame.

Five different players recorded an RBI in the third with Ryan having a two-run single plus a double in the inning.

Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.) and Dani Williams (Monroe, Mich. / Jefferson) each had an RBI single in the fifth.

Wayne State returns to league play with a home conference doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon against 11th-ranked Saginaw Valley.
