DETROIT -- The Wayne State women's tennis team fell
6-3 to undefeated Ferris State University Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight match, the Warriors went into the singles portion trailing 2-1 and were unable to bounce back.
In No. 2 doubles,
Milena Vuksanovic and
McCall Monte were beaten by Alina Stanila and Melissa Flowers 8-5, while Tabitha Simpson and Natalie Diorio bested
Caroline Gosman and
Tanya Joseph, 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
In the lone doubles win,
Sharon Gill and
Kristina Goranskaya ousted Amy Ingle and Tiffany Rheynard, 8-4 to pick up their 13th consecutive win together.
However, Gill suffered her first lost of the season in No. 1 singles to Stanila, 6-4, 7-5.
As for Goranskaya, she was able to win her No. 2 singles match over Ingle in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Picking up another win for WSU was
McCall Monte, defeating Melissa Flowers, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
The Warriors lost marathon matches in No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Simpson bested
Debora Correa, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, while Diorio beat
Jennifer Bradford, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Wayne State (3-2, 3-2 GLIAC) will pick up play next Friday at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. Ferris State moved to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC.
