Saginaw, Mich. -- The Wayne State women's tennis team snapped their two match losing streak Friday afternoon, producing a decisive
8-1 win over host Saginaw Valley State University.
WSU (4-2, 4-2 GLIAC) swept the doubles portion with
Caroline Gosman and
Jessica Kruczek defeating Charlotte Wong and Katie Piorkowski 8-2,
Milena Vuksanovic and
McCall Monte besting Stephanie Bagnell and Hailey Crampton 8-3, and
Sharon Gill and
Kristina Goranskaya winning 8-5 over Yunjiao Shangguan and Andrea Calhoun.
The momentum carried over to singles as five of the six Warriors triumphed in straight sets.
Gill won her 70th career singles match (134th overall), defeating Shangguan 7-5, 6-2, while Goranskaya beat Calhoun 6-2, 6-4. Vuksanovic outdid Bagnell 6-4, 6-3, and Gosman won her first career singles match over Wong 6-1, 6-2.
Kurczek bested Piorkowski 6-2, 6-3, while Monte fell to Crampton 6-0, 6-3.
The team will pick up action next Saturday, October 2 at Lake Superior State.
