DETROIT -- In a battle of unbeatens, the Wayne State women's tennis team came away with an impressive
8-1 victory over visiting Ashland.
With their third straight win to begin 2010, the Warriors have now won 11 of their past 12 matches, dating back to last spring.
Equally impressive was
Sharon Gill and
Kristina Goranskaya, who won their 11th straight match together after beating Victoria Goudy and Paige Cooper, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.
Not to be outdone,
McCall Monte and
Milena Vuksanovic defeated Corinne Pasley and Alex Ware, 8-4, while
Jennifer Bradford and
Jessica Kruczek bested Kira Kotova and Megan Gisclon, 8-1.
In No. 1 singles, Gill won over Victoria Goudy 6-1, 6-1, bringing her career singles record to 67-12. Goranskaya continued the trend as she beat Paige Cooper, 6-2, 6-2. Also winning in straight sets for Wayne State (3-0, 3-0 GLIAC) was Vuksanovic and Bradford.
After dropping her first set 5-7 to Ware,
Debora Correa battled back in No. 5 singles to take the final two sets of the match 7-5, (10-8).
The Warriors pick up GLIAC play this coming Friday at home against Grand Valley State University at 3:00 p.m.
