Detroit, Mich. - The host Wayne State University women's tennis team (10-1, 10-1 GLIAC) earned its 10th win of the season after posting an
8-1 victory over Tiffin University (5-6, 4-6 GLIAC) on Sunday.
After sweeping doubles play, the Warriors took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Highlighting the effort were freshmen
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) and
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and sophomore
Tanya Joseph (Northville, Mich. / Northville) who all yielded no points the entire match to their opponents. In addition, Briand and Moore remained unbeaten (10-0) in conference doubles competition, defeating Anna Scherting and Chelsea Beck at two doubles, 8-0.
In No. 4 singles, Briand (11-3) went on to shutout Nicole Ardner, while Moore (12-2), in the three slot, pushed her win total in GLIAC singles play to nine as she bested Scherting, 6-0, 6-0.
Senior
Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ontario / Northview Heights Secondary School) also picked up her 10th league triumph as she defeated Malaika Bora Messi at one singles, 6-3, 6-2.
While the duo of Goranskaya and
Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali (Valle, Colombia) / Gimnasio, Britanico) (12-3) recorded an 8-2 victory over Messi and Taylor Cooper in one doubles, Joseph and freshman
Haleigh McPeek (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) shutout Ardner and Cassie Dye at three doubles, 8-0.
Garcia-Diaz (10-3) tallied a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cooper at No. 2 singles and Joseph defeated Renne Mattson, 6-0, 6-0, at six singles.
Sophomore
Jessica Kruczek (Detroit, Mich. / Lakeview) suffered a 6-4, 7-6(4) setback to Beck at five singles.
The Warriors close the GLIAC regular season schedule on Tuesday by welcoming Hillsdale College to the WSU Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
