Allen goes 4-for-4; ties WSU career home run mark

Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (5-8 overall) received solid pitching from junior Sam Cain and a 4-for-4 batting performance from classmate Alison Allen in a 4-0 triumph over Minnesota-Duluth (4-9 overall) Tuesday morning at the Rebel Spring Games.

Cain (Taylor, Mich. / Kennedy) struck out three and did not walk a batter while scattering four Bulldog hits.  She only faced 25 batters in the seven inning contest to improve to 3-5.

Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) equaled the Wayne State career home run mark set by Amanda Jennings (1996-99) with her two-run blast to center field in the top of the seventh.

The Warriors broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the third as freshman left fielder Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) had a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior shortstop Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica).  Allen laced a single off the body of UMD hurler Megan Mullen to put runners on the corners.  Junior third baseman Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.) followed with an RBI single through the left side.

In the top of the fifth, Allen had a one-out single and moved to second on a passed ball with two outs.  Junior first baseman Rebecca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) plated Allen with an RBI single to right center.

Histed singled with one out in the seventh and came around to score on Allen's 23rd career home run.

Mullen allowed 10 hits and four runs (three earned) for the Bulldogs, while striking out three and walking two.

Besides Allen's 4-for-4 performance, both Stanley and Ryan each had two hits helping the top three in the Warrior lineup go 8-for-11 with four RBI.
