Softball Upends Adelphi 8-2

Five different Warriors with a multiple-hit game.

Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (7-9 overall) recorded an 8-2 triumph over the Adelphi Panthers (4-8 overall) Thursday evening.

The Warriors struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first.  Junior right fielder Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) led off the contest with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.).  After a walk to junior first baseman Rebecca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) and a fly out, sophomore center fielder Steph Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) laced an RBI single to center field.  Freshman second baseman Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) followed with a single to center scoring Ryan.

WSU increased its lead to 6-0 with a four spot in the fifth inning.  Ryan had a leadoff single but was erased on a one-out fielder's choice.  Fulton's single to left moved Foreman to second.  Freshman left fielder Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) reached on an error with Foreman scoring from second on the play.  Junior shortstop Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) followed with a two-run single to right.  Freshman third baseman Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) plated Histed with a single to center.

The Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the frame on four hits.

Wayne State answered back with two runs in the top of the sixth.  Stanley had a one-out triple to right and scored on a single by Ryan.  Foreman's infield single plated Ryan with the game's final run.

Warrior freshman hurler Lauren McLaughlin () improved to 4-3 by allowing two earned runs on seven hits. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Five different WSU batters -- Allen, Ryan, Foreman, Fulton and Histed -- had two hits apiece as Wayne State recorded 12 hits in the contest.
