Warriors fall 13-3 and 4-3.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (12-12 overall, 2-2 GLIAC) suffered a home doubleheader sweep, 13-3 and 4-3, at the hands of Saginaw Valley State University (17-8 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) Tuesday afternoon at the WSU Softball Stadium.

In game one, two Warrior pitchers allowed 18 hits combined, the most in a single game by an opponent since May 12, 2007 (Grand Valley).

The visiting Cardinals scored twice in the first, added two more in the second plus four in the third.

Marcy Medina hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning and added an RBI single in the second following an RBI single by Ashley Coffin.  Kailah Happ had a two-run single in the fourth and Jillian Peterson contributed an RBI single with the four run of the inning scoring on a WSU error.

SVSU added a run on a wild pitch in the fourth plus a pair of RBI singles made the score 11-0.  After the Cardinals scored twice in the top of the fifth, the Warriors responded with three in the bottom of the frame.

Pinch-hitter Kristina Susalla (Garden City, Mich.) singled, with Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Following a walk to Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica), Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) singled down the right field line scoring Fulton.  Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.) drove in Histed with a single to right center with Allen scoring as Stanley was caught in a run down.

Jade Fulton earned the win for SVSU by limiting WSU to one hit in the first four innings.  Sam Cain (Taylor, Mich. / Kennedy) took the loss for WSU.  She allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits in three innings.

Saginaw Valley scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning in game two on three Warrior errors.

WSU tied the contest in the top of the third on consecutive singles by Histed, Allen and Stanley.

The Cardinals regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on Medina's second two-run home run of the afternoon.

Wayne State pulled within a run in the top of the fourth as Fulton had a one-out infield single, moved to second on a single by Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) and scored on a single by Histed.

SVSU scored their fourth run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Jess McKeith and Monica Gathright.

The Warriors didn't quit scoring once in the seventh as White reached on an error and went to second on a single by Allen.  With two outs, Rebecca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) singled through the left side scoring Allen but a pop out ended the contest.

Freshman Lauren McLaughlin () went the distance for Wayne State allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.  Alexa Gehrls started for SVSU and allowed seven hits and two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.  Fulton earned the win in relief by limiting WSU to two hits and an unearned run in 3 1/3 innings.

Allen, Fulton and Histed all had two-hit affairs in the second game, with Allen extending her hitting streak to six games.

It was WSU's first doubleheader loss at home since Ashland won twice in Motown on April 10, 2009 (1-0, 5-4).
