Men's Tennis Drops 9-0 Decision At Northwood

Warriors begin GLIAC Tournament as No. 2 seed

The 37th-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (15-6, 7-2 GLIAC) suffered a 9-0 road setback in its GLIAC regular season finale with Northwood University on Wednesday.

The Warriors begin the GLIAC Tournament in Midland on Friday as the No. 2 seed.

In No. 1 doubles, Aman Gill (Windsor, Ont.) and Melvin Joseph (Northville, Mich.) dropped an 8-3 decision to Antoine Pangaud and Valentin Bayle.

Joseph squandered a hard-fought match with Oleksiy Krylchuk in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8, while Gill went on to fall in his No. 2 singles bout with Bayle, 6-0, 6-1.

After losing the first set 7-6 (7-5) to Pangaud in No. 1 singles, Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) battled back to win the second set 6-1, but fell 10-1 in the super tiebreaker.

Ducret teamed with Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich.) in No. 2 doubles and conceded an 8-3 decision to Marcus Oliveira and Marius Wahlier.

FitzGerald dropped his No. 3 singles match with Jean Menard, 6-2, 6-1.

In No. 3 doubles, Oscar Gamarra (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Alec Attala (Clinton Twp., Mich.) came up short in their No. 3 doubles bout with Menard and Florian Boggia, 8-2.

Gamarra was bested by Oliveira in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Jon Groszek (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) suffered a setback in No. 6 singles to Boggia, 6-2, 6-2.
