DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (17-15 overall, 5-5 GLIAC) scored just one run in a doubleheader sweep,
13-0 and
5-1, by visiting Tiffin University (22-7 overall, 13-1 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon at the WSU Softball Stadium.
The Dragons pounded out 11 hits and scored five unearned runs on two Warrior errors in the opener.  TU snapped a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the second on a one-out double to right center by Jessie Creakbaum.
Tiffin batted around in the third scoring seven times on six hits.  Tiffany Smith smacked a three-run home run to right field after the first two batters had reached on a walk and a single.  Pinch-hitter Katie Toomey added a two-run single in the frame.
TU completed the scoring with a four-run fifth.  Smither had a three-run double to right center giving her six RBI in the contest.
Wayne State was held hitless by Dragon starter Amber Young (for two innings) and Abbey Cooksey (5-3) for the final three innings.
Warrior freshman second baseman

WSU tallied a single run in the sixth as junior right fielder
Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) doubled down the right field line as the Tiffin right fielder tried to make a sliding catch on a ball curving away from her.  With two outs, junior first baseman
