University Center, Mich. -- The Wayne State University softball team (20-18 overall, 12-8 GLIAC) extended its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep at Saginaw Valley (16-18 overall, 9-11 GLIAC) Friday afternoon. The Warriors rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 5-2 in the opener to post an 8-6 triumph. WSU never trailed in the nightcap in recording an 8-4 victory.

After two Cardinal runs in the bottom of the first, Wayne State tied the game with a pair of runs in the third. Freshman catcher Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) had a leadoff double and was bunted to third. Following a lineout, sophomore left fielder Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) worked a walk, and senior third baseman Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) then ripped a two-run double to left center.

SVSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on two doubles, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take a 5-2 lead.

The Warriors rallied in the fifth with five runs on four hits. Bryce started the frame with a single and senior shortstop Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) followed with a single moving pinch-runner Makelle Barski (Trenton, Mich.) to second. Sophomore second baseman Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) had an RBI double to right center and White's sacrifice fly made it a one-run game. After a walk to Allen, senior first baseman Rebecca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) had an infield hit to load the bases. Junior Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) plated the tying run with an RBI ground out, while both Allen and Ryan scored on a Cardinal throwing error.

Saginaw Valley pulled within a run at 7-6 with an unearned score in the bottom of the fifth.
