Painesville, Ohio -- The Wayne State University softball team (29-19 overall, 21-9 GLIAC) completed its four-game sweep of host Lake Erie College (5-42 overall, 2-28 GLIAC) by winning twice on Saturday in convincing fashion.  The Warriors won game one 16-0 in five innings, then posted a 13-4 triumph in five innings in the nightcap.

The two victories gives WSU a 14-1 mark in its last 15 contests heading into the final doubleheader of the regular season this Tuesday when the Warriors entertain division leader Ashland (38-12 overall, 22-8 GLIAC).

In game one vs. the Storm, the Warriors scored once in the second then added two runs in the third before a 10-run fourth put the game out of reach.

Senior pitcher Sam Cain (Taylor, Mich. / Kennedy) allowed two singles in five innings, while striking out three.  She did not walk a batter in improving her record to 18-9.

After allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the first, Cain retired the next nine batters until Juliana Brotzman had a single leading off the fourth but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

Meanwhile, the Warrior bats pounded out 18 hits including seven for extra bases.

Senior shortstop Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) delivered a two-out RBI double in the second.  The next inning two more seniors started the rally as third baseman Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) and first baseman Rebecca Ryan (Westland, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) had back-to-back singles with one out.  A walk to junior outfielder Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) loaded the bases, with Allen scoring on a fielder's choice.  Pinch-runner Makelle Barski (Trenton, Mich.) then scored on a groundout.

In the fourth, Histed and sophomore left fielder Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) each singled before Allen smacked a three-run home run.  The first of four home runs by WSU in the inning.

After a walk to Ryan, Foreman drilled a two-run shot, and sophomore Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont.) made it back-to-back round trippers with her first career home run.  Two singles sandwiched around a walk preceded a grand slam home run by sophomore second baseman Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.).

Fulton finished the contest 2-for-5 with five RBI, while White was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Histed went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI from the ninth spot.

WSU began game two by scoring three times in the bottom of the first.  Foreman had a two-run double and senior Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.) contributed a sacrifice fly.

After the Storm tallied their first run of the weekend in the top of the second, Wayne State responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame.  Fulton had a two-run home run, and Stanley added a two-run single.

Fulton had a one-out triple in the third and scored on an RBI groundout by White.

WSU added four more runs in the fourth.

Fulton hit for the cycle going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI to pace a 14-hit attack.  Eight different Warriors had hits with Foreman, Ingratta and freshman center fielder Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford) each having a multi-hit game.

Freshman Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) earned the win.  She allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in five innings with four strikeouts.
