Decatur, Ala. -- The Wayne State University softball team (0-2 overall) dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Southern Indiana (1-0 overall) in the second game of the 2013 Charge Chillout hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) was locked in a pitcher's duel with Screaming Eagle sophomore Brooke Harmening for the first six innings until USI scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh.
Southern Indiana's sophomore first baseman Mollie Thomas had a one-out RBI-single in the top of the seventh inning after Kelsey Jankowski laced a one-out double. Pinch-runner Toni Braun advanced to third on a passed ball; then scored three pitches later when Thomas hit a looping single on a 3-2 count into shallow centerfield.
Butler (0-1) struck out seven and walked one while allowing six hits, meanwhile Harmening limited Wayne State to three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Warrior base hits were by junior second baseman
Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.), a two-out single in the top of the first; sophomore outfielder
Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) with a one-out single in the second; and sophomore
Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) with a leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth.
Harmening retired nine of WSU's final 10 batters after Bryce's hit.
Wayne State is slated to play GLVC and Midwest Region rivals Indianapolis (3 p.m.) and Kentucky Wesleyan (5 p.m.) on Saturday in Alabama.
