Decatur, Ala. -- The Wayne State University softball team took a 1-0 lead against 15th-ranked Indianapolis Saturday afternoon on day two of the 2013 Charger Chillout, but the Greyhounds answered with an 11-run frame in the top of the fifth in defeating the Warriors 11-2.

Warrior starter Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) retired the first 11 UI batters before a two-out single in the top of the fourth by Casey Williamson.

In the bottom of the fourth, WSU snapped the scoreless deadlock with a single run after leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the second.  Butler led off the fourth with a single up the middle, advanced to second on a ground out, then scored on a single to left center by Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams).

Four straight base hits by the Greyhounds knotted the game at one, then after a pop out a passed ball gave UI a 2-1 advantage.  Four more hits produced another four runs before senior Emily Wickerham (North Branch, Mich.) replaced Butler in the circle.  After a ground out, a two-run single and a three-run triple completed the scoring.

Jade McGarr reached on an error and later scored on a single by Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston).

Jennifer DeMotte was the winning pitcher limiting WSU to one run on five hits in four innings with one strikeout.  Coryn Tirpak allowed one run in one inning of relief.

Butler suffered the setback after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.  Wickerham surrendered three runs (two earned) in 2/3 of an inning.

Butler and Foreman each had two hits for the Warriors.

Wayne State will conclude day two action with an in-region contest against Kentucky Wesleyan.
