Softball Wins Twice on First Day of Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (4-4 overall) began its spring break trip with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games.

In the opener, sophomore Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) limited Notre Dame College to four singles, while recording 10 strikeouts and no walks to notch her first win (1-2) of the season in Wayne State's 1-0 triumph.

Senior outfielder Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) smacked a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth on an 0-1 offering to deep left center field.  It was WSU's first home run of the campaign.

Foreman tallied two of the Warriors four hits, while Lee and Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) had the other singles.

In the nightcap WSU defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 5-2 behind the pitching of Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) and Lee.  Boehler (2-0) went the first six allowing two earned runs on three hits.  Lee pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

In the contest vs. the Dragons, the Warriors took an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first as singles by White, Foreman and Lee loaded the bases with White scoring on a fielder's choice by Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams).

WSU increased its lead in the third as Lee led off with a single and scored on a two-out double by Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth).  Burnard scored after advancing to third on a bunt single by Catherine Rayos (Warren, Mich. / Mott/Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center) along with a throwing error by the Dragons.

Wayne State added to its lead in the fifth as Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) had a two-out single and stole second, where scored on a single by Burnard.

The Dragons tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth on three hits to make it a two-run game.

WSU scored an insurance run in the seventh as Lee was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on an error and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by McGarr.  Burnard put down a bunt single with Lee scoring on an errant throw.

White led WSU with three hits while Lee and Burnard each had two singles.
