Hillsdale, Mich. -- Wayne State (22-10, 12-4) extended their winning streak to nine games with a pair of victories at Hillsdale (12-18, 5-12) on Saturday afternoon.
Game One (W, 6-5)
Following several recent lopsided victories; the Warriors took game one against the Chargers by the narrowest of margins, 6-5.
Chris Gebara homered in the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie and deliver WSU's eighth straight win.
The Green & Gold scored two runs in the second inning on a RBI-double from
Daniel Peake. In the third, WSU added another run on a sacrifice fly from
Jimmy Jackson, which plated
Brad Guenther.
Hillsdale scored all five of its runs in the third inning, powered by six hits and a Wayne State error, to take a 5-3 lead.
Guenther singled home a run in the fourth inning to bring the Warriors within a run, 5-4. WSU tied the game in the fifth inning after
Kyle Zimmerman singled home Peake with a hit to left field.
Gebara's home run in the top of the seventh inning gave WSU a 6-5 lead before
Clayton Ruch collected his GLIAC-leading eighth save of the season despite allowing a single and issuing a hit-by-pitch.
Ethan Vasiliauskas (5-2) went six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.
Guenther finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Game Two (W, 10-4)
Eric Cunningham singled to begin the second inning and Jackson followed with a RBI double to right field.
Chris Gebara hit his second home run of the day to right field to give WSU a 3-0 lead.
Cunningham drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
The Chargers got on the board with a two-run triple from Mike Vanchieri in the third inning.
The Warriors used five hits to score five runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 9-2.
Kasey Koster drilled a three-run home run to right field for the bulk of the inning's damage.
Hillsdale scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth.
Cunningham singled to center field for WSU's 10th run of the game, making the final score 10-4.
Alex Pierse (5-1) allowed four earned runs and struck out five before
Brock Bates tossed a perfect final inning to secure the win.
Guenther, Koster, Cunningham and Gebara all turned in multiple-RBI games.
Wayne State will conclude the series at Hillsdale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
