Midland, Mich. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (22-19 overall, 13-8 GLIAC) lost both ends of a league doubleheader Friday at Northwood University (27-14 overall, 17-5 GLIAC).  The Timberwolves won the opener 9-2 behind three home runs, and won the nightcap 5-1.

In game one, Northwood manufactured a run in the bottom of the first but the Warriors tied the contest in the top of the second as sophomore Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) singled, moved to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth).  Freshman Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) followed with a single to right center to knot the game at one.

NU's Sam Zaborowski smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, but WSU pulled within one run in the fifth as junior Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) had an infield single to start the frame.  Freshman Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) had a two-out single scoring senior Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston) who had reached on a fielder's choice.

The Timberwolves regained their two-run advantage with a solo home run in the fifth by Paige Shields.  Northwood scored five times in the sixth on three hits with the big blow being a two-out grand slam by Rachel Hammer.

Lee (7-13) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs (five earned) on 10 hits in six innings of work.  She struck out five and walked three.  Maddison Sebald (15-4) earned the victory for Northwood surrendering two earned runs on seven hits.  She did not record a strikeout and walked only one.

Seven different Warriors had singles in the contest.

In game two, Northwood never trailed scoring once in the third and twice more in the top of the fifth for a 3-0 lead.  Wayne State would score its lone run in the bottom of the fifth on a one-out home run by junior Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.).

Stacey Klonowski hit a 1-2 pitch with two outs in the top of the third over the left field fence for the first run of the game.  Shields smacked her second home run of the day, a two-run shot in the fifth.

The Timberwolves would complete the scoring with two runs in the seventh, one on a throwing error and the other on a sacrifice fly.

Freshman hurler Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) was tagged with the loss despite allowing only three earned runs (five total) on six hits in seven innings in the circle.  Boehler (14-4) struck out three and walked one but allowed two home runs.

Casey Brown (5-5) limited the Warriors to one earned run on eight hits with five strikeouts and only one walk.

White went 3-for-4 in the contest, while Fulton contributed two hits and a walk.
