Hillsdale, Mich. -- The Wayne State University softball team (14-12 overall, 5-1 GLIAC) extended its overall winning streak to five games with a pair of road victories, 4-1 and 10-4, at Hillsdale College (3-12 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) Thursday afternoon.

In the opener, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead three batters into the game as leadoff hitter Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) reached on catcher's interference, was sacrificed to second by Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) and scored on a double by Stephanie Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston).

The Chargers knotted the game at one in the second on a pair of doubles and left the bases loaded.

WSU regained the lead in the top of the third as Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) had a leadoff hit and came all the way around to score on a throwing error.  Foreman again doubled in Fulton making it 3-1.

Foreman was part of WSU's final run as she reached on an error with one out in the fifth.  She advanced one base each on hits by Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) and Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic), and scored on a wild pitch.

Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) went the distance in the circle for WSU to improve to 4-8.  She struck out eight and limited HC to one run on five hits.

Foreman was the lone Warrior with a multiple-hit game with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Wayne State had its highest scoring output of the season totaling 10 runs on 13 hits.

WSU snapped a scoreless deadlock with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.  Catherine Rayos (Warren, Mich. / Mott/Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center) had a leadoff single and scored on a one-out double by Fulton.  White's single advanced Fulton to third where she scored on a throwing error during White's stolen base attempt.

A solo home run for Hillsdale in the top of the fifth cut the Warrior lead in half to 2-1.

Rayos again started a scoring rally in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff hit.  She went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Williams and came around to score on Fulton's second double of the contest.  After a single by White, Foreman doubled in both runners with her third double of the day.  Bryce followed with a single plating Foreman to make it 6-1.

Wayne State starter Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) allowed the first four batters in the top of the sixth to reach on a single, a two-run home run, and back-to-back singles before giving way to Lee.  After striking out the first two Hillsdale batters Lee allowed a run-scoring double to make it 6-4 before retiring a pinch-hitter to end the inning.

The Warriors answered back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Rayos reached on a throwing error, was sacrificed to second, and moved to third on a hit by Fulton.  Following a stolen base by Fulton, White delivered a two-run single to center.  After Foreman was walked, Bryce laced an RBI single to center plating White.  Foreman later scored on a one-out fielder's choice by Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth).

Boehler (9-2) earned the win despite allowing four earned runs on seven hits in five-plus innings of work.  Lee notched her third save of the season by not allowing a run in her two innings of work.

Fulton went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while White contributed three hits along with two RBI and two runs scored.  Bryce, McGarr and Rayos all had two hits in the contest.

Wayne State returns home for a four-game home stand starting with Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader against Tiffin.  The Ohio Dominican Panthers visit the WSU Softball Stadium for a noon twinbill on Sunday.
