Ypsilanti, Mich. -- Second seed Wayne State University (32-18, 21-10) was bounced from the 2013 GLIAC Tournament by top-seeded Grand Valley State (30-15, 22-7) with an 11-0 defeat on Friday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University.
The Green & Gold finished the game with just six hits while GVSU pounded out 17 hits and scored in six of the possible eight innings.
Starter
Greg Spiess (Saline, Mich.) (2-3) went 3.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out two.
Grand Valley's starter Patrick Kelly (6-3) tossed a complete game shutout with five strikeouts and no walks.
Kenny Davis (Wyoming, Mich. / Lee) continued his solid tournament with a leadoff single to right center but was left stranded on third base.
GVSU scored first with three straight singles including a RBI-single from Jamie Potts. Giancarlo Brugnoni tripled off the wall to extend GVSU's lead to 3-0.
Potts drove in another run and Jesse Abel followed with a RBI-single to center to give the Lakers a 5-0 lead after three complete innings.
Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) replaced Spiess in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brugnoni hit his 12th home run of the season to left center to give GVSU a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Ethan Vasiliauskas (South Rockwood, Mich. / Carleton Airport) entered the game with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mike Nadratowski sent a single through the right side for an RBI, extends the Lakers' lead to 7-0.
Back-to-back doubles plated in another run for GVSU, extending the lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the seventh.
Taylor Horn (Leo, Ind.) exited the bullpen and became the fourth Warriors pitcher of the day. GVSU added two more runs, aided by two WSU errors, to stretch lead to 10-0.
David Frederick (Rockford, Mich. / Northview) replaced Horn in the bottom of the eighth inning. GVSU scored in its sixth inning of the game and the lead reached 11-0 as the game entered the ninth inning.
