Final Boxscore from Ohio Dominican Game
Findlay, Ohio - The Wayne State University softball squad (26-20 overall) advanced to the final four of the GLIAC tournament with a 4-1 victory over Ohio Dominican University (23-28-1 overall) Saturday morning at the Marathon Diamonds.
Junior center fielder
Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) extended her on-base streak to 15 games with her infield single in the top of the first.
White began the streak with a walk in each of the first two games starting on April 16. She then had an 11-game hitting streak followed by a walk in Friday's second game.
The Warriors anpped a scoreless draw with the Panthers in the top of the fourth as freshman third baseman
Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) singled with one out, and was safe at second on a throwing error. Junior catcher
Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) singled up the middle plating McGarr.
WSU extended its lead to 2-0 in the fifth as junior second baseman
Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) led off with a single down the left field line. White followed with a bunt single. Following a fielder's choice,
Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) reached on a fielding error in which White scored all the way from second.
ODU pulled within one, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back two hits.
Wayne State scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as Fulton had a leadoff double and advanced to third on a bunt single by White. Fulton scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore first baseman
Emily Bryce (), then White came across the plate on an infield single by McGarr.
Sophomore pitcher
Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings to improve to 9-14. She struck out three and walked two. Rachel Stanzel went the distance in the circle for OSU. She surrendered four runs (two earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout and no walks.
White went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while both Fulton and McGarr went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Wayne State (27-20 overall) defeated Findlay (27-15 overall) 5-4 in 10 innings in game two on Saturday to advance to the loser's bracket final against Ashland. That contest wil be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship round versus Grand Valley.
