The Wayne State University softball team (30-20 overall) will be making its 18th trip to the NCAA tournament and third in the past four years after winning the GLIAC Tournament this past weekend in Findlay, Ohio.  It was the 10th GLIAC Tournament title in school history and the first time that WSU won in back-to-back years since winning three straight post-season trophies in 1993, 1994 and 1995.

The Warriors will open NCAA tournament action at Indianapolis (50-5) on Friday at 2:30 p.m.  The Greyhounds are the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region.  The first game on Friday at noon in Indianapolis features fourth seeded Lewis (31-15) battling No. 5 seed Ashland (27-18).

The other four-team Midwest Regional will be played in Allendale, Mich.  Grand Valley (39-6) will play Ferris State (29-14) in a day one match-up while Missouri-St. Louis (38-13) and Southern Indiana (29-20) will square off in the other day one contest.

WSU will be competing in the NCAA tournament for the seventh time in the past eight years.  The 18 overall appearances ranks sixth among current NCAA Division II members and trails only Bloomsburg - 31, California (Penn.) - 22, Augustana (S.D.) - 21, and Humboldt State - 20 of the 64 schools qualifying in 2013.  Of the schools not competing in this year's NCAA tournament only Florida Southern with 20 appearances and former Division II member Nebraska-Omaha with 24 trips to the dance have been to more NCAA tournaments than Wayne State.
