BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team swept all of the flights in singles Friday and cruised to an 8-1 victory at Ferris State University. The Warriors, playing in their third road match in five days, improved to 3-1 in the GLIAC and overall with the match win.
WSU got off to the lead against the Bulldogs, taking two of the three doubles matches for a 2-1 advantage. Juniors
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) won 8-3 at the No. 1 doubles flight.
Sophomores
Anastasia Burobina and
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) took the No. 2 flight with an 8-4 win.
Wayne State swept all six singles matches, winning all but one in straight sets. Moore scored a 6-4, 7-6 win at the top flight, sophomore
Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) earned a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles and Burobina also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Briand was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles, Poissant recored a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 win at the No. 5 flight and freshman
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position.
The Warriors conclude their four-match road trip Saturday, facing Grand Valley State in Allendale for a 10 a.m. match.
