DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (12-0 GLIAC) is seeded No. 1 at the 2014 GLIAC Tournament beginning tonight and finishing on Sunday at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
The Warriors will open this year's tournament against eighth-seeded Saginaw Valley State at 6:45 p.m. on Friday evening. The two teams recently played each other on Oct. 18th with WSU coming away with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Cardinals.
The winner of the No. 1 / No. 8 match will take on the winner of No. 4 Tiffin / No. 5 Ferris State contest in the second round of the tournament. Wayne State won a 5-4 decision over Tiffin on Sept. 14th and shut out Ferris State 9-0 at its first home match of the season on Sept. 20th.
WSU was seeded No. 2 during the 2013 tournament and made it to the championship round for the first time in program's history losing to Northwood 5-2. Later in the year they went on to defeat the Timberwolves 5-3 in the NCAA Regional Tournament. With the Warriors heading into the tournament undefeated for the season, they're hoping to make it to the championship round again.
