Midland, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (13-0 overall) advanced to the GLIAC semifinals with a convincing 5-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State University (4-9 overall) Friday evening at the Midland Tennis Center.
The Warriors swept doubles play to begin the match with a 3-0 advantage.
The senior duo of
Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and
Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que. / École Secondaire Félix-Leclerc) posted an 8-0 triumph at first doubles, while sophomore
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and junior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) teamed for a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 2 doubles.
Junior
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) paired with
Liz de Souza Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) for another tiebreaker win (9-8/7-5) at third doubles.
WSU won the first two singles matches to be completed to conclude the match.
Mitrache did not lose a game at second singles recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Briand wrapped up the contest with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles.
The Warriors will face Tiffin University (12-4 overall) in a GLIAC Semifinal match today at 3:45 p.m.
