Volleyball Falls in Three at Northern Michigan

The Warriors hit just .043 for the match.

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (8-14, 5-10 GLIAC) suffered its second straight sweep at Northern Michigan (12-12, 12-3 GLIAC) on Friday night. WSU hit just .043 for the night compared to NMU's .237.

Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption), Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) and Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron) all finished with six kills each to lead the Warrior offense. Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) handed out 18 assists while Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton) collected 12 digs.

The Wildcats led 15-6 to begin the opening set. The Green & Gold trimmed the deficit to 17-12 on a NMU attack error. NMU finished the first set on an 8-3 run to win the game 25-15.

Northern Michigan led 11-5 in the second set after a kill from Madison Whitehead. Moore connected on a kill later in the set to cut the NMU lead to 21-17. However, that would be as close as the Warriors would come and the Wildcats took a 2-0 match lead with the 25-20 win.

The momentum continued in the third set for the home squad as NMU led 15-6 to start. WSU pulled within four at 19-15 after a Wildcat attack error. Three more NMU attack errors would bring WSU within two at 23-21. Avery Punches (Rockford, Mich.) brought the Warriors within two at 24-22 and a NMU attack error trimmed the home advantage to 24-23. Whitehead ended the match with a kill to improve NMU to 12-3 in the league, which is good for the third best record in the GLIAC.

WSU will play at Michigan Tech on Saturday at 3 PM.
