DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (4-9, 2-7 GLIAC) fell in straight sets on Saturday afternoon against Findlay (11-3, 8-1 GLIAC). The Oilers won in three by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-14.
Findlay led 9-6 to begin the first set.
Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) pulled the Warriors within four at 14-10 with a kill. The Oilers cruised the rest of the way leading by scores 18-13, 22-15 and eventually winning 25-16.
Following back-to-back service aces from
Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton), WSU led 6-4 to open the second set. A 7-2 run later in the set gave UF the lead at 12-9. The visitors exploded for a 10-2 run to go up 22-13. WSU showed some character, pulling within four at 24-20 but a Nickyla Garverick kill sealed the 25-20 win for Findlay.
The Oilers' momentum continued in the third set, leading 14-5.
Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield) did her best to keep the Green & Gold in the match with three consecutive kills but Findlay extended its lead to 17-9 on the next point. The Oilers would handle the rest of the set and collect the sweep with a 25-14 set-three victory.
Grace Frazee Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) led the offense with nine kills while hitting .467 and Kielty posted 14 digs.
WSU will begin a five-match road trip next weekend at Lake Erie.
