Winter Haven, Fla. -- The 14th-ranked Wayne State University softball team (12-2 overall) recorded its fourth 1-0 victory of the young season on Sunday afternoon upending the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (0-8 overall) as part of the Rebel Spring Games tournament.

Redshirt freshman hurler Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) was outstanding in the circle limiting SWMS to three hits as she faced just 24 batters in the contest.  She struck out 11 and did not walk a batter to improve to 6-1.

The Mustangs had two runners reach second base through the first six innings, and in the bottom of the seventh an SWMS runner advanced to third on the second out of the inning, but Butler retired the next batter on four pitches.

Wayne State scored its lone run in the top of the seventh.  Butler singled with two outs and moved to third on a single up the middle by Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams).  Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova College) followed with an RBI single through the left side plating Butler.

WSU resumes tournament play on Monday as the Warriors will face Lees-McRae at 9 a.m. and fifth-ranked Augustana College of South Dakota at 1 p.m.  Both games on Monday will be played at the Auburndale Softball Complex.
