Melbourne, Fla. -- The 14th-ranked Wayne State University softball team (14-3 overall) upended No. 29-Florida Tech (18-9) by an 8-1 score in game one of a twinbill.

The Warriors struck in the top of the first as Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) and Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) had back-to-back one out doubles.  FIT knotted the game at one in the bottom of the second on a one-out home run by Nicole Shinsky.

WSU erupted for six innings in the top of the fourth to break the 1-1 deadlock.  Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova College) led off with a single, and after two ground balls, Wayne State had runners on the corners with one out.  Ingratta scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice by Devin Hentschel (Wyoming, Mich. / Rogers).

Back-to-back walks to pinch-hitter Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) and Emily Cava (Oakville, Ont. / Cardinal Leger S.S.) plated another run, and White greeted relief pitcher Taylor Smith with a two-run double.  Butler and Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) followed with consecutive RBI singles.

WSU's final run in the top of the sixth was scored by White.  She had a one-out base hit, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Bryce.

Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) earned the victory by allowing one earned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts to three walks.

White went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Bryce and Butler each had two hits and two RBI.

Rachel Pence started in the circle for FIT and allowed six earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings with one strikeout and two walks.  Smith surrendered the final two runs in her 3.2 innings on five hits with two strikeouts.
