Melbourne, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (15-3 overall), ranked No. 14 nationally in last week's NFCA Division II Poll, completed a doubleheader sweep at 29th-ranked Florida Tech (18-10) Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 triumph in game two.

Warrior freshman pitcher Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) faced 22 Panthers retiring 21 of them and just missing a perfect game due to a two-out walk on a 3-2 offering in the second inning.  She retired the final 16 FIT batters of the game, including 11 on strikes.

Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) started the two-run first inning rally with a one-out single.  After a fielder's choice and a throwing error by FIT put two runners on with two outs, Julie Ingratta laced a two-run double to left center plating Butler and Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams).

WSU added an insurance run in the fifth as Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) reached on a leadoff walk.  A bunt single by White moved pinch-runner Catherine Rayos (Warren, Mich. / Mott/) to second.  An infield single by Bryce scored Rayos with the game's final run.

Butler improved to 7-2 on the year while recording her fifth solo (sixth total) shutout.  She struck out 15 and walked one, while not allowing a hit.

White went 3-for-4 with four other Warriors recording one hit apiece.

After a day off on Wednesday, Wayne State will face Glenville State and LIU-Post on Thursday.
